Increased Number of Malnourished Children 0-71 Months old

the problem

Despite of the strong continuous campaign of the Municipality of Piñan, malnutrition still arises as a problem in the community. Based from the survey conducted by the ADZU-SOM medical students and from the Operation Timbang conducted during the First Community Assembly there is a significant numbers of malnourished children in the community. The group measured the weight, height and Mid-Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC) of those ages 0-59 months or under 5 years’ old children. The weight-for-age, weight-for-height and height-for-age is based from the FNRI-DOST WHO-adopted multi-center CGS or Child Growth Standards.

Malnutrition does not only arise from small amount of intake of food. Even if the people get enough to eat, chances of malnutrition can still arise due to the faulty diet, lack of intake of micronutrients, vitamins and minerals needed for the daily requirement.

The 12 – day feeding of milk and egg was the initial supplemental feeding for the recipient with milk and egg which were given on one meal during the day for 12 days. The Ready – to – Use Therapeutic Food or Peanutrisyon was based on the research of Dr So. The group’s version of Peanutrisyon is made up of peanuts, vegetable oil, white sugar, whole milk and malunggay powder.  The communal garden was initiated last December 9 and 16, 2019 and was facilitated by the beneficiaries of the Pamilyang Pilipino Pantawid Program of Barangay Bacuyong. The garden was sustained for the past 4 months by the 4Ps. The harvesting scheme was accepted among the beneficiaries of the communal garden. The communal garden was also adapted by different puroks in the community.
