Low Access to Antenatal Care

The barangay has no infrastructure for a health station since the barangay serves as a catchment area of the Health Station based in barangay Segabe. The health station in Segabe is approximately 5 km away from the barangay. The barangay has a Nutrition Center which prenatal and immunization services are conducted. The midwife, who is assisted by a nurse from NDP, visits the barangay once every month. However, based from the records gathered 74% of the pregnant women utilizes the prenatal services offered by the RHU. And only 74% or 20 out 27 pregnant of 2015 were attended by a skilled birth attendant.

Antenatal care (ANC) is one of the evidence-based interventions to decrease the probability ofbad health outcomes for mothers and their newborns. Effectiveness of antenatal care, however, depends on the quality of care provided by the health care worker in every visit.

Prenatal care is one of the health care services being offered in any barangay health stations on rural health units. This is one basic care being rendered to expectant mothers to help prevent maternal morbidity and mortality. Also, prenatal serves as an avenue to educate mother regarding healthy nutrition, environmental sanitation and things to expect during delivery and after delivery.

In barangay Bacuyong it was noted that only 74% of mothers do have their prenatal check-ups done at Barangay health station and hospital. Others do not participate in prenatal check-ups with the following reasons noted during our primary survey:

  1. Lack of manpower visibility in the barangay health station

  2. Distance and the burden to travel from underdeveloped road to the Barangay Health Station

  3. Lack of determination to conduct health promotion and maternal health related services in the community

These reasons stated above resulted in 7 out of 25 mothers surveyed in 2016.

THE OBJECTIVE
