ZUMBAcuyong! Zumba Kontra Highblood.

The initial kick off of ZUMBAcuyong held last May 16, 2017 at Barangay Bacuyong MPCC

Dancing to great music with the barangay members has been one of the highlights of our community immersions since we have stepped foot on the soils of Bacuyong. Initially the people thought it was sort of a dance craze that the world introduced via the social media network. With the proper health education done about hypertension awareness and prevention, the team managed to encourage the barangay folks to join the "ZUMBAcuyong! Zumba Kontra Highblood" experience. The program was introduced as form of physical aerobic exercise program for at least 30 minutes twice weekly to establish lifestyle and health awareness to the barangay to avoid sedentary lifestyle and raise hypertensive control experienced by the members of the barangay. Men, women, children, even the elderly were actively and happily attending the zumba exercise program in the barangay organized by the team.

The preparations were not at all difficult as the barangay captain and his council were very enthusiastic and supportive of the project proposal. They granted the use of the multi-purpose covered court alongside the sound system to be used every time the team launched the activity. The council persons even joined in and danced to sweat all the calories away every Tuesdays and Saturdays with the team at 4:30AM.

The project was a success. 2 volunteer zumba leaders were appointed by the team to continue on the ZUMBAcuyong exercise program. The number of attendees were gradually increasing as the days went by. Even after the team left the community, they were still actively participating in the ZUMBAcuyong program. There are still room for improvements and proper follow up with the zumba leaders are a must. To conclude, the "ZUMBAcuyong! Zumba Kontra Highblood" program was a success. The barangay members' feedback were highly appreciated by the team in that they relayed that there is indeed hope for them to have their hypertension risks prevented and controlled by proper diet and exercise.
