KALINGAWAN: Kalihukan para sa Kalusugan

Nowadays, sports is part of our lives. It has been part of the lives of the people in the community where we served and lived in for some couple of years now. For some athletes, or even regular community people in the barangay, SPORTS IS LIFE.

One of the most played ball games in the community is basketball. Basketball, perhaps, is one of the most popular games in the country. It is a game generally played indoor with five members from each opposing teams. It was conceived in 1891 by a physical education instructor, Dr. James Naismith of YMCA College in Massachusetts. It is played by either men and women. It is a game that is know worldwide. Some of the players becamenpopular in the field of basketball like Michael Jordan, Lebron James, Stephen Curry and many others.

People get fascinated when watching basketball and gets too excited while playing the game. It is one strenuous game that everyone loves. This game is being played by many, including children in the barangay. Most of the players usually play the game with only slippers or even barefooted. Even without proper playing gear, this does not stop them from playing.

The group decided to conduct a "Liga" in the community. (Liga or league in English is a common term used to describe a basketball game. ) This is a fund raising event for the benefit of the Rubia Child Development Center. This is also for the promotion of a healthy lifestyle among the members of the community. The liga was participated by 4 teams from kids division, 2 teams women's division, 6 teams from men's division. Each teams is composed of an average of 8 members.

The Kalingawan: Kalihukan para sa Kalusugan was successful. It was manifested by the number of attendees and registrants to the game. It was a very good idea to promote healthy lifestyle on the level that the stakeholders or the community wanted it.
