Buntis Congress and Super Mom Pageant

The Rural Health Unit of Piñan, headed by Municipal Health Officer Dr. Ricardo Awit, in coordination with the Local Government Unit conducted Buntis Congress last September 26, 2018 at the Piñan gymnasium. The program started with the welcome address given by the MHO, followed by an inspirational message from the Municipal Mayor Cecilia Garcia Jalosjos-Carreon.

The Buntis Congress is a program that aims to make an impact for health promotion concentrating on care for pregnant women, improve the survival of women during pregnancy, delivery and post-partum, and reduce child mortality of under five children.

Lecturers from the RHU and even guest speakers from ADZU-SOM were invited to be part of the lecturers emphasized on the importance of prenatal visits, facility based delivery, nutrition during pregnancy, benefits of exclusive breast feeding, dangers/emergency signs of pregnancy-birth, family planning and responsible parenthood and new born screening.

The morning event advocates safe motherhood to all women and was attended by pregnant women from all barangays across the municipality of Piñan. There were several services rendered per station given during the event: Station 1 - Blood Donation, Station 2 - Prenatal, Station 3 - Family Planning and Adolescent Health Station 4 – Nutrition and Feeding 5- NCD 6- Environment and Sanitation.

An interesting part of the activity was on the afternoon, the Super Mom Pageant, wherein pregnant mothers represent different barangays of the municipal came to compete to be the next Super Mom title holder. This was to showcase that pregnancy is beautiful and that a married woman and mother still has what it takes to become a super mom beauty queen. The said contest was open to all pregnant women at 2nd trimester age of gestation.

Overall, the event went smoothly, lively, and the participants were very cooperative despite of the heavy downpour of rain the afternoon. In the end, everyone went home happily with each of them having a token.
